Port-au-Prince, Haiti – August 21, 2025 — When Akademi opened applications for the 2025 Haiti cohort of its three bootcamp programs—Data Science & AI, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering—we knew data science would attract strong interest. But the numbers spoke for themselves: of the 265 applicants, nearly half (49%) applied for the Data Science & AI program, making it the most sought-after program. Cybersecurity followed with 30% of applicants, and Software Engineering rounded out the cohort with 21%.
That enthusiasm carried through to admissions—50% of all admitted students are training in data science and AI this year.
The Global Demand for Data Talent
Now that we’ve passed the two-month mark, we want to share some key reflections on our progress.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for data scientists is projected to grow 36% over the next decade—much faster than the average for all occupations. On average, 20,800 job openings for data scientists are expected each year over the coming decade, driven by the increasing reliance on data across industries.
This trend holds true in Haiti as well, where most employers surveyed by Akademi expressed a strong interest in hiring data analysts from our bootcamp program.
Why Data Science Is a Strategic Career Choice
While every tech role plays a vital part in the digital economy, studying data science provides a unique level of job security. Every industry with a digital footprint generates massive amounts of data—data that needs to be analyzed to stay competitive, innovate, and serve customers better.
Our employer partners reflect this diversity of demand:
- Banking & Finance: Banque de la République d'Haïti, Sogebank, HaitiPay
- Telecommunications: Digicel Haiti
- Healthcare & Education: Various nonprofit organizations seeking data expertise
From tracking economic trends to improving healthcare systems, data science is central to solving real-world problems.
AI Skills for All
Whether our students choose Data Science, Cybersecurity, or Software Engineering, they all graduate with an understanding of how Generative AI is transforming their industries. For those in the Data Science & AI track, the program dives deeper—teaching students how to build AI and machine learning models, preparing them to lead innovation in their chosen fields.
Looking Ahead
This Haiti cohort will graduate in October, and we couldn’t be more proud of their journey. They are stepping into a job market that needs their skills, ready to make an impact across sectors.
Data isn’t just the future—it’s the present. And with the right training, our graduates are ready to harness it.
